These guys are part of the booming music scene in Turkey. The discovery of Altin Gun a few years ago has led me to explore more from that region and I just keep discovering great artists from all over the world. Everywhere there are these pockets of bustling music scenes.

#627 – self-titled by Blac Rabbit
The more psychedelic bands is listen to the more I discover. I know people aren’t thrilled with Spotify right now, and with good reason, but I’m not sure I would’ve persisted with this blog for so long if it wasn’t for the “people also like…” section. It is a triumph of app design.
#626 – An Evening With Silk Sonic by Silk Sonic
It should come as no surprise that two guys as talented as Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak would collaborate on such an amazing album. It is both great material and sounds like it was beamed here from the ‘70s.
#625 – American Graffiti by Strawberry Girls
When somebody recommends an album to me I can usually guess what genre it will be just based on who suggested it. It’s both surprising and not surprising that most people’s frame of reference is fairly limited and consistent.
#624 – Long Time Coming by Sierra Ferrell
I’m always grateful for a recommendation of some good country music. This has always been a blind spot in my listening habits and I find more and more over time that I’ve been missing out on a great deal of solid material from this genre.
#623 – Private Space by Durand Jones & The Indications
Another great recommendation from a coworker. These guys sound like they were sent her in a time machine from 1975. If you had told me this was an old Motown album, I would’ve had no trouble believing you.
#622 – thank u, next by Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande has a song in the Trolls movie that I have always really enjoyed. I was reminded of it today, which led me to realize that I’d never heard one of her albums. As has been the case so often with big time pop albums, I enjoyed this one a lot more than IContinue reading “#622 – thank u, next by Ariana Grande”
#621 – Lovers and Leavers by Hayes Carll
I met a new co-worker the other day who turned out to be quite like-minded in many ways, one of which being a love for live music. He suggested quite a few, extremely varied artists to me, which is my favorite way to pick the daily selection. The next week or so will be pepperedContinue reading “#621 – Lovers and Leavers by Hayes Carll”
#620 – On All Fours by Goat Girl
This all-female quarter from London blends electro-pop with an indie rock feel for quite the entertaining effect. I will definitely be following them with great interest. Hopefully they do a US tour soon.
#619 – 8 by Incubus
It’s been years since I’ve listened to Incubus. There was a time when I was obsessed with these guys, but for whatever reason, my attention strayed elsewhere for quite some time. A song from this album popped up on Spotify the other day and I was surprised to see how recently it was released andContinue reading “#619 – 8 by Incubus”
