Interesting that I listened to a Passover album the week of Rosh Hashanna. This is a band that was fronted by Alex Maas of selection #488 fame.

This is a fantastic album. It’s not terribly common for me to listen to a new artist and immediately move on to one of their other albums, but on this day I did just that.

The next few selections were all brought to me by my most prolific suggester of this blog. I’ll have to go back someday and see how many selections certain people have provided. This guy is a really mellow indie artist who really likes rehab.

I love the cover art on this album. This artist has always intrigued me since I heard a story about the writing of his first album. A genre that I keep trying to get caught up on is electronic music of all kinds. I happened to come across this album because the cover art caught my eye.

These guys have been around for a while and I never took notice until I heard their version of the Grateful Dead’s “Touch of Grey.” Also, Spotify kept suggesting this album and I can’t resist the allure of an algorithmic selection.

I just learned about the death of Chuck E. Weiss, who was an unusual singer/songwriter and LA scene-maker. As a contemporary of Tom Waits, it’s no surprise that Weiss’s music was a little odd, but equally interesting is his erratic pattern of releases, with some extremely long gaps in his creative productivity. I’ve always enjoyed a good instrumental guitar album. Robben Ford has been putting out great guitar work since the early seventies, so I’d say he’s worth checking out at this point, wouldn’t you?
