Today this blog turns one year old. How much longer can it, or should it, go on? I wanted today’s selection to be a great one and this album is certainly that. This album was produced by the lovely and talented Jeff Frickman, who is as great a friend as a producer. I had theContinue reading “#365 – Last Light on the Highway by Robert Jon & The Wreck”

#364 – Ilana(The Creator) by Mdou Moctar
I saw a poster for a show that these guys were supposed to play in April 2020 at work today, so I checked them out. End of story.
#363 – Star Wars by Wilco
As obsessed as I was earlier in the pandemic, I can’t believe that there was a Wilco album that I hadn’t heard yet, let alone one with an appropriate title for today, the nerdiest of all holidays. I celebrated with a rifftrax of The Rise of Skywalker, the most recently polarizing installment of the franchise.Continue reading “#363 – Star Wars by Wilco”
#362 – Amor Prohibido by Selena
I’m once again disgusted by this blog’s lack of true diversity. It took me just under a year to pick a Spanish language album for the first time. That fact dawned on me as I read an article about the new Netflix show about Selena. I didn’t really know much about her, except that sheContinue reading “#362 – Amor Prohibido by Selena”
#361 – Halcyon Days by Mokhov
I really enjoy this style of mellow, atmospheric electronic music. This is a fun album, but my main takeaway is just how impressed I am that this artist has used essentially the same cover art for each of their 10 albums. You have to admire their commitment to a bit.
#360 – self-titled by Operation Ivy
It’s fascinating how much a band can influence a genre while only releasing a single album. These guys only existed for about two years before going their separate ways. Granted, two of them went on to form Rancid, so with their pedigree as punk royalty, it’s no wonder that an earlier project of theirs wasContinue reading “#360 – self-titled by Operation Ivy”
#359 – Mug Museum by Cate le Bon
There was a time when I would write at least one haiku per day. I’ll have to find my old notebook to see when I left off with it, but it feels like now is the perfect time for a resurrection. It’ll make the small writing exercise that is this blog feel a little moreContinue reading “#359 – Mug Museum by Cate le Bon”
#358 – Brightest Lights by Lane 8
There are some days where you learn a lot about yourself and about the world. Ideally, these lessons do not come with a particularly high cost to you, personally. Of course there will be other days where it feels like you’re being dragged through the mud, or worse, across something more abrasive. I’m not sayingContinue reading “#358 – Brightest Lights by Lane 8”
#357 – Masterpiece by Big Thief
There is a seemingly bottomless well of great indie rock bands that I’ve never heard of. It’s been fun discovering more and more of them as this project has gone on, and Big Thief is a great example. It’s obviously just a sign of my ignorance of various music scenes around the country that artistsContinue reading “#357 – Masterpiece by Big Thief”
#356 – Superdream by Big Wild
I’ve really been phoning in these posts this week. It’s partially because I’m on a mini family vacation and partially because I’ve been utterly uninspired lately. It seems I’m finally coming to the peak of my “COVID fatigue” that has been festering for over a year. Time to get myself back on track and figureContinue reading “#356 – Superdream by Big Wild”
