There is a seemingly bottomless well of great indie rock bands that I’ve never heard of. It’s been fun discovering more and more of them as this project has gone on, and Big Thief is a great example. It’s obviously just a sign of my ignorance of various music scenes around the country that artists like this have eluded my attention until now, since I’ve been making a concerted effort to branch out with my listening habits. Or is that just they way it’s supposed to be? You have to be from there to know about certain things, so why should local bands be any different? Modern technology and the way music is distributed have changed things a bit, but there’s still something special about a local act that you like breaking out of a small market and on to the national scene.
