I’ve always really enjoyed this band. I finally got the chance to see them at Coachella 2019 and they did not disappoint. We’ll be seeing them when they come through LA this December at the Palladium, one of my favorite venues. This album features a great collaboration with Robert Smith. What more could you want?

#475 – Some Girls by The Rolling Stones
The Rolling Stones’ legendary and iconic drummer, Charlie Watts, passed away this week, so I was looking at their catalog and marveling at the amount of music that they have produced over the years. Charlie was really a jazzman at heart, as one can see from his various side projects. It’s always fascinating to seeContinue reading “#475 – Some Girls by The Rolling Stones”
#474 – lately I feel EVERYTHING by WILLOW
I’ve been working on Red Table Talk for a couple of years now, so I hear a lot about the artistic exploits of Willow Smith. This, her latest album, is more pop-punk than her previous offerings and features some very cool songs, as well as some big-time collaborators.
#473 – BADLANDS by Halsey
Halsey has an upcoming album that’s being produced by Trent Reznor, who is one of my favorite artists to see live. It is now one of my most anticipated upcoming albums.
#472 – Jamm by Cheikh Lô
The three of you who have been reading this blog may have noticed that I’ve been developing a taste for more and more African artists. Where once when I would look for something similar to one of the many American indie rock bands I have discovered, now more and more I am looking for artistsContinue reading “#472 – Jamm by Cheikh Lô”
#471 – In the Heat of the Night by Imagination
This album is a fun little snapshot of the early ‘80s. I assume that the sessions for this one involved mountains of cocaine. Also, aside from their debut album, which featured a suggestive cartoon banana, all of their album art is essentially the exact same picture.
#470 – Fake Sugar by Beth Ditto
I came across this album while reading an article about the producer, prolific ghost writer Jennifer Decilvio. It always interesting hearing the impact that a great producer can have on a good song. I’m not saying that these songs wouldn’t have been great without her, but it’s hard to deny the effect that an experiencedContinue reading “#470 – Fake Sugar by Beth Ditto”
#469 – Solar Power by Lorde
Even though I never listened to the entirety of her debut album, Pure Heroine, I am definitely very familiar with most of it. There was a time when she was played every day on every sound stage in Hollywood and I would’ve paid good money to make it stop. Despite this, the reviews of herContinue reading “#469 – Solar Power by Lorde”
#468 – The World Only Ends When You Die by Skyway Man
This is yet another amazing recommendation from one of my prolific contributors. Indeed, in all the time I’ve known this person, they have never steered me wrong, predating this blog by many years. I certainly appreciate anyone who takes the time to suggest an artist/album, but I do wish that more of them were likeContinue reading “#468 – The World Only Ends When You Die by Skyway Man”
#467 – Something More Than Free by Jason Isbell
I read a article the other day about Jason Isbell’s vaccination policy for his shows and the backlash thereof, and knew I had to check his work out. I was not disappointed. His take-it-or-leave-it attitude permeates this collection of songs that are as much roots rock and blues as they are country. I’m gonna haveContinue reading “#467 – Something More Than Free by Jason Isbell”
