I guess I would call this artist’s genre electro-jazz, or something like that. Solid jazz drumming with some very cool electronic sounds.

#805 – self-titled by I Hate My Village
I always have to check out any band with a really interesting name.
#804 – the book about my idle plot on a vague anxiety by toe
I was reading a subreddit about Sigur Ros and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Someone asked for more artists along the same lines which sparked the inevitable argument about whose tastes are more refined and why everybody else is wrong about this or that. Generally a conversation like that culminates in someone calling someone else aContinue reading “#804 – the book about my idle plot on a vague anxiety by toe”
#803 – Malik by Lafayette Afro Rock Band
Another stellar recommendation from my go-to source for old soul, funk and reggae artists. It seems like I’ve heard this band sampled a fair amount. Or maybe they’re just someone who I’ve heard before without realizing it. Either way, great stuff that really evokes the 1970s, which is probably not a valid statement from somebodyContinue reading “#803 – Malik by Lafayette Afro Rock Band”
#802 – Shapeshifter by Marcy Playground
When I was young, the way music was publicized through radio and traditional media often did a disservice to to the artist and the album as a whole. There are so many albums from back then where the single that the label chose was not necessarily representative of the bulk of the work. For thatContinue reading “#802 – Shapeshifter by Marcy Playground”
#801 – Sweet Oblivious Antidote by Perpetual Groove
I’ve been delving further into the jam scene recently. It’s taken me a long time to get into anyone other than Phish or the Dead, but I’ve slowly discovered a bunch more jammy artists that are cool and unique, and can do interesting things in a live setting. A buddy of mine had previously suggestedContinue reading “#801 – Sweet Oblivious Antidote by Perpetual Groove”
#800 – Special by Lizzo
I’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of a new album from Lizzo. Her previous offering, Cuz I Love You, is one of my most frequently played go-to albums and has been a constant part of all of my playlists of the past couple of years. And so, it is only fitting that she be theContinue reading “#800 – Special by Lizzo”
#799 – Cooler Returns by Kiwi jr.
This is the other selection that was featured on a Jones Cream Soda label. Some may say that a soda bottle is an unorthodox place to discover new music. I say, I’ll take what I can get, and I don’t care how I get it. Possibly the one and only area of my life inContinue reading “#799 – Cooler Returns by Kiwi jr.”
#798 – Smooth Big Cat by DOPE LEMON
I was reading a column from the Spin website series “5 albums I can’t live without” featuring the Lumineers’ Wesley Schultz. This one was the only one of his five that I didn’t know, and the others included a few of my favorites, so of course I had to know what this fifth selection ofContinue reading “#798 – Smooth Big Cat by DOPE LEMON”
#797 – Junior by Corridor
This one was a first for me. I learned of this artist from the label of a bottle of cream soda. Jones Sodas has partnered up with Sub Pop Records to feature several of their artists on the bottle labels. Turns out these guys were Sub Pop’s first French-singing artist they’ve ever signed, and judgingContinue reading “#797 – Junior by Corridor”
