The first two albums of this blog were the latest release by their respective artists, so today I decided to go in the other direction and pick an early album. It’s always fun to go through the back catalog of a band you have discovered, and Kikagaku Moyo is no exception. These guys are from Tokyo, but they sound like they were transported from the late 60s. For such a short album (31 min), they cover a lot of ground sonically. One minute they’re playing traditional eastern instruments, then pivot to some spacey and effects-heavy fun and then move on to the driving power rock of the 70s. Any fan of classic rock will be on board with this one.
