Spotify make a lot of great suggestions. I especially like ones from earlier eras of my life where I was stuck in a loop of mainstream rock and classic rock. I really missed out of many years of great discoveries, which are only becoming apparent now.

#535 – One Fast Move or I’m Gone: Music From Kerouac’s Big Sur by Jay Farrar and Ben Gibbard
The side projects of Ben Gibbard are some fascinating albums. The success of the prolific album by The Postal Service really guaranteed that I will always listen to anything he is involved in.
#534 – The Story by Brandi Carlile
Not only is Brandi Carlile an amazing songwriter and performer, but she is responsible for my discovery of one of my favorite live acts, the Avett Brothers. We went to see Brandi once long ago and it turned out that she was opening for the Avetts, with whom we were not familiar at the time.
#533 – Being There by Wilco
I became obsessed with Wilco shortly before covid started, having previously only been familiar with a couple of their early albums. But I get it now. Listen to Wilco.
#532 – self-titled by My Morning Jacket
One of my favorite things in this project is when I am able to listen to an album that has been released that day. These guys’ past few albums have been fantastic, and really made a fan of me.

I’ve fallen way behind with my posts again, through a combination of factors, so the next bunch of posts will be extremely light on commentary. Normal blog entries to start again tomorrow. I promise that I’ve kept up on my listening each day, though.

Tomahawk is made up of members of the Jesus Lizard, FaithContinue reading “#530 – self-titled by Tomahawk”
#529 – Bad Behavior by BRONCHO
Not only did I return to concert-going Sunday night with one of my favorite bands of all time, but in the process I met some very cool and like-minded people. One of them recommended this artist to me and I really enjoyed their album. Live music creates a truly magical atmosphere that brings people togetherContinue reading “#529 – Bad Behavior by BRONCHO”
#528 – IV by Black Mountain
I saw these guys last night in my return to Los Angeles concert-going in the age of Covid. They opened up for Primus, one of my favorite bands, who I will always go see at any opportunity, and who always has great opening acts. So it came as no surprise that Black Mountain was rightContinue reading “#528 – IV by Black Mountain”
#527 – Psychology by Pigeons Playing Ping Pong
I’ve been hearing about these guys for years. They’ve long been an up-and-coming member of the jam band community and have started playing bigger shows over the past couple of years. They also have very entertaining and cartoony album art, which will always get my attention.
