I was completely obsessed with Imogen Heap a few years ago, having seen her extraordinary performance at LA’s Greek Theater. If you’ve been following pop music for any amount of time, you’ve probably heard some of her work, whether you’re aware of it or not.

#884 – The Soft Machine by Soft Machine
Yesterday’s selection led me to my all-too-familiar pastime of picking the next day’s selection off of Spotify’s “fans also like” section. It has never steered me wrong yet. Jinx!
#883 – Philadelphia 1980 by Frank Zappa
One of my frequent sorrows as a music fan is my love of artists that have passed away or are no longer creating new music for whatever reason. I will ravenously devour any of their work that I have never experienced and seek out anything similar, or featuring their past collaborators. Frank died before IContinue reading “#883 – Philadelphia 1980 by Frank Zappa”
#882 – Queens of the Breakers by The Barr Brothers
There are a few songs from The Barr Bros’ previous album that I have long been obsessed with, so it feels a little silly that it took me so long to branch out further into their catalog.
#881 – Sailin’ Shoes by Little Feat
I can’t get enough of the Linda Ronstadt version of Little Feat’s song “Willin’.” The version from this album is also excellent, even without the fantastic Sneaky Pete pedal steel solo.
#880 – Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
These guys have been one of my favorite bands for quite a while now and they really are a music lover’s dream. The music is great, their live show is extremely entertaining and their productivity is prolific, to say the least. This is the third album they’ve released this year and are rumored to haveContinue reading “#880 – Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard”
#879 – Gemini Rights by Steve Lacy
I grew up abhorring top 40 music. I’m not sure if it’s just that I was so closed-minded when I was younger or that the pop music of my youth was just not that appealing to me, but recently I’ve been enjoying it more than I ever thought possible. This selection came to me whileContinue reading “#879 – Gemini Rights by Steve Lacy”
#878 – Full Circle by Loretta Lynn
I’ve been listening to more country music in the past couple years than ever before and have really been enjoying it. One artist that I’ve been listening to for a while, however, is Loretta Lynn. Her album Van Lear Rose was produced by Jack White and really changed my idea of what a country albumContinue reading “#878 – Full Circle by Loretta Lynn”
#877 – Walk Out Boy 3 by walkie
The war in Ukraine has been the source of untold horrors for so many people and on so many levels. It is devastating to read the news each day of more and more atrocities and apparent war crimes being brought to the doorsteps of ordinary Ukrainians. Even though they are technically the aggressors, the RussianContinue reading “#877 – Walk Out Boy 3 by walkie”
#876 – The Thunderthief by John Paul Jones
Like so many young men, I spent many years idolizing the legendary Led Zeppelin. Their contribution and influence over rock music are indisputable and anyone who came after owes them a debt of gratitude. This is a great solo album from the prolific bass/keys master who is responsible for so many of my favorite LedContinue reading “#876 – The Thunderthief by John Paul Jones”
