It’s a silly reason to pick an album, but I was watching an episode of the Australian kids’ cartoon show Bluey that was titled fruit bat today. Despite that, this is a really solid album.

#1005 – Quality Over Opinion by Louis Cole
This is a fantastic album by one half of the LA based duo KNOWER along with Genevieve Artadi. I don’t know what else to say about it except that I loved it and you should give it a listen. It’s got a little something for everyone.
#1004 – All is Wild All is Silent by Balmorhea
This Texas duo of Michael A Muller and Rob Lowe(not that one) founded Balmorhea in 2006, adding their own take on the post-rock instrumental genre. Whenever I’m having trouble picking an album, I look up Sigur Ros and see what comes up in the “fans also like” section. That method has yet to fail me.
#1003 – self-titled by Roxy Music
Roxy Music emerged in the 70’s, combining the different musical sensibilities of Brian Eno and Bryan Ferry. Though the original lineup was only together for two albums, they laid the groundwork for and inspired quite the array of artists, from glam rock to new wave.
#1002 – Scott 4 by Scott Walker
I’m a huge fan of Wes Anderson, most of whose films I’ve loved, not least because of the fantastic soundtracks and scores contributed by Mark Mothersbaugh. These eclectic collections are how I was introduced to all kinds of artists, like Scott Walker, whose song 30th Century Man was featured in The Life Aquatic.
#1001 – Extra Welt Hits by Extrawelt
We’re on a family vacation to Mexico this week, which adds a level of complication to listening to my album. Admittedly, after the amount of poolside cocktails that were consumed this afternoon, I forgot to pick an album until quite late in the day. Boy, would it be embarrassing do break the streak just oneContinue reading “#1001 – Extra Welt Hits by Extrawelt”
#1000 – The ConstruKction of Light by King Crimson
I can’t believe that I’ve been doing this long enough to get to 1000 albums. This project, which became a small, daily accomplishment and writing exercise during the Covid lockdown, has truly become a defining part of my daily routine. I know there’s not a ton of people out there going on this listening odysseyContinue reading “#1000 – The ConstruKction of Light by King Crimson”
#999 – Uninvisible by Medeski, Martin & Wood
Last night I went to a new venue in Ventura, CA to see The Wood Brothers, one of whom is Chris Wood of today’s selection. It was an old bowling alley that has very recently been converted into a music venue and restaurant. Though it’s probably not the best sounding place I’ve ever seen aContinue reading “#999 – Uninvisible by Medeski, Martin & Wood”
#998 – Apocalypse by Mahavishnu Orchestra
I had a phase in high school and college when I was obsessed with the virtuosity of jazz fusion artists, not the least of which being John McLaughlin and his various projects. And so, when I read an article about Sir George Martin’s experience of producing this album, it seemed like the perfect opportunity toContinue reading “#998 – Apocalypse by Mahavishnu Orchestra”
#997 – Stress: The Extinction Agenda by Organized Konfusion
I came across this album on a hip hop subreddit in which people were complaining that this album has never been reissued. While I was not familiar with this particular project, I did spend much of my high school years listening to Pharoahe Monch, one half of this duo along with Prince Poetry. And don’tContinue reading “#997 – Stress: The Extinction Agenda by Organized Konfusion”
