No sooner did I pick this album to listen to, then I immediately learned that Bombino was playing in Los Angeles the very next night. Of course that’s also the one night this week where I already have plans. Serendipity is funny sometimes.

#793 – Diaspora Problems by Soul Glo
I was reading an article about the first show of the Rage Against the Machine reunion tour, which led me to a Reddit thread about it. Someone asked about other aggressive, socially-conscious artists to check out and another user suggested these guys.
#792 – The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
I was looking for a nice, mellow album with Sunday morning vibes when serendipity struck. This one had been recommended by a colleague on one of our group chats. The exact mood I was looking for.
#791 – Wake Up Everybody by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes
It’s so crazy to listen to an album with socially conscious lyrics from almost fifty years ago that is as relevant today as when it was written. It’s also pretty depressing. One would hope that some lasting progress would have been made in American society in all that time, but we’re no closer to figuringContinue reading “#791 – Wake Up Everybody by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes”
#790 – Formentera by Metric
Everybody loves Fridays. It’s the day that marks the end of the traditional work and school weeks and the beginning of the much-anticipated weekend. The time when we are furthest from more work. I also love it for another reason: new albums generally come out on Friday (sometimes Tuesday, too, so don’t bother pointing thatContinue reading “#790 – Formentera by Metric”
#789 – The Way Out by The Books
I came across these guys on Spotify somehow. I believe one of their tracks came on after I listened to the Neutral Milk Hotel album for the umpteenth time, and upon looking up their bio, I was properly intrigued. The combination of solid guitar work and found sounds sometimes becomes tedious over the course ofContinue reading “#789 – The Way Out by The Books”
#788 – Thirteen Tales of Urban Bohemia by The Dandy Warhols
Last week I listened to an album by The Brian Jonestown Massacre and referenced the 2004 documentary Dig! which featured them and The Dandy Warhols. I meant to pick one of each of their albums on back-to-back days, but since my brain is pudding these days, I forgot about it. So here’s the belated secondContinue reading “#788 – Thirteen Tales of Urban Bohemia by The Dandy Warhols”
#787 – Healing is a Miracle by Juliana Barwick
I noticed recently that the ambient/post-rock scene that I am so fond of is almost completely dominated by men. After a very slight amount of searching, of course I discovered quite a few artists that proved me wrong in that observation. I never tire of being wrong, especially with such a great result as this.
#786 – Ants From Up Here by Black Country, New Road
The name of this band apparently came from some kind of name generating AI. When you search for them I’m a browser, one of the first articles that comes up includes a quote by a music critic calling them the best new band in the world. I can’t say I completely disagree, though I supposeContinue reading “#786 – Ants From Up Here by Black Country, New Road”
#785 – Patterns & Light by Kodomo
Here’s another “people also like” discovery. I’m sure someone out there is reading this and thinking “this lazy fuck needs to put some more effort into his blog.” Touché, says I. This system has been working out for a while now, however, so I see no reason to reform the functional, if slightly boring, systemContinue reading “#785 – Patterns & Light by Kodomo”
