It’s so crazy to listen to an album with socially conscious lyrics from almost fifty years ago that is as relevant today as when it was written. It’s also pretty depressing. One would hope that some lasting progress would have been made in American society in all that time, but we’re no closer to figuring out our problems, even with all of the technological and scientific advances that have come to pass. There’s still an element – a disturbingly large element – that longs for the “good old days” that only really existed if you were a well-off white person who never looked outside their comfortable, segregated bubble.
