Last week I learned that a friend from work’s wife is directing a new Sheryl Crow documentary for Showtime. I realized that I know a bunch of her songs, but have never heard a complete album of hers, so I decided to check out her most recent release. This album features heavy hitting guests on every track, from newer artists like Gary Clark Jr, who is really making the rounds these days, to legends like Willie Nelson, Stevie Nicks, James Taylor, Keith Richards and the resurrected Johnny Cash. If you’ve been at the top of the music game for as long as she has, you can always dip into your Rolodex and collaborate with some chart-toppers. My favorite tracks are the ones featuring St Vincent and Keith Richards, though the album is solid all the way through. Wow, this post reads like an actual album review. It’s been a while since that has happened and will probably be a while before it happens again.
