It’s a sign of how fucked up the world is right now that the biggest sporting event on a Saturday night was an exhibition boxing match between two retired fighters whose combined age is over 100. Shockingly, as weird and surreal as that fight was, it was not the worst part of the evening. That dubious honor goes to the last undercard fight, which would’ve seemed right at home in a carnival sideshow: Jake Paul versus Nate Robinson, a matchup that would’ve been laughable if it hadn’t been so grotesque. Even the commentator for the event commented that it barely resembled boxing. I’d like to believe that this is as low as we will go in the depths of the pandemic in our desperation for any kind of entertainment, but if the past four years have taught me anything, its that, at least in America, there is no bottom.
