This is a really cool and mellow album and a great collaboration between Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and The National’s Aaron Dessner. The story that I heard was that Taylor Swift asked Aaron Dessner to produce her latest album after hearing the Big Red Machine album and it’s not hard to understand why. I love these types of collaborations, side projects between contemporaries and I can only hope it’s not a one-off album project. Some of my favorite albums – The Postal Service’s Give Up comes to mind – have come about this way with far too few follow-up releases for my taste. There is something to be said for not tarnishing your career with a less-than-perfect offering, but I can’t imagine either of these guys ever being able to put out a bad album.
