#98 – Lulu by Lou Reed & Metallica

Our Kevin Bacon game, so far:

The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney produced – and is the husband of – Michelle Branch, who was featured on Santana’s “The Game of Love.”  On a later album, Santana collaborated with Metallica’s Kirk Hammett.

This is a genuinely odd album.  I would certainly not say it’s bad, by any means, but I would also probably not say that I would revisit it.  I don’t really know what I was expecting, but this is not it.  It reminds me less of a traditional album and more of a beat poet performing with musical accompaniment, and the accompanist is Metallica.  If it had been presented to me like that, I would’ve listened out of sheer fascinated curiosity and probably enjoyed it more.  It does, however, end with a long instrumental called “Junior Dad” that was the highlight for me.
