I was introduced to the music of Rob Simonsen by some friends from work who know him. He is part of a collective of modern composers called Echo Society, which held some amazing multimedia events to debut their latest works. The one I went to was held at the Theater at the Ace Hotel, an amazing old venue in downtown Los Angeles. Along with the music, they had some pretty amazing choreographed light installations and screen effects. Rob’s catalog is mostly film scores, and he has written a lot of music for the screen and Rêveries, his first studio album, really displays his talent for amazing, evocative soundscapes. Chances are, you’ve already heard his work in film and just didn’t realize it.
