
I think I’ve mentioned before how much I love supergroups. This is a really interesting one. Banks & Steelz features Interpol’s Paul Banks and the RZA of Wu Tang Clan. Apparently the RZA sought out Banks for this collaboration because he “just has an energy about him.” I saw them at Coachella a few years ago not knowing anything about them. Their set was probably about halfway over before I realized what I was seeing. There’s probably no shortage of people who would be skeptical about a mash-up of hip hop and indie rock. If I hadn’t seen it live first, I might’ve thought the same thing, though it does sound intriguing on paper. Now that I’ve heard the whole album, I can only hope that more artists take their lead and do some cross-genre collaborating.
