#71 – Anything But Words by Banks & Steelz

I think I’ve mentioned before how much I love supergroups.  This is a really interesting one.  Banks & Steelz features Interpol’s Paul Banks and the RZA of Wu Tang Clan.  Apparently the RZA sought out Banks for this collaboration because he “just has an energy about him.”  I saw them at Coachella a few years ago not knowing anything about them.  Their set was probably about halfway over before I realized what I was seeing.  There’s probably no shortage of people who would be skeptical about a mash-up of hip hop and indie rock.  If I hadn’t seen it live first, I might’ve thought the same thing, though it does sound intriguing on paper.  Now that I’ve heard the whole album, I can only hope that more artists take their lead and do some cross-genre collaborating.
