I’m always fascinated by great jazz albums, partly because a lot of it is over my head and partly because the musicians seem to possess such an otherworldly knowledge and ability. One of my favorite things about music, and particularly live music, is its ability to touch people who know nothing about how music works. You don’t need any musical ability or knowledge to take pleasure in it which makes it extremely inclusive. The value of the communal experience of seeing a live performance cannot be overstated, and I hope we’re able to have such experiences again someday soon, when it’s safe to do so.
