Once again, I must divert from the theme of Black History Month in recognition of today’s announcement of the breakup of Daft Punk. There can be no dispute about the influence of this prolific duo, who are probably as responsible for the rise of EDM’s popularity as anyone. For people around my age, they wereContinue reading “#292 – TRON: Legacy by Daft Punk”

#291 – Talk Dirty by Jason Derulo
Jason Derulo is one of those artists who I have never intentionally listened to very much, but have always been tangentially aware of. This album alone features three songs that I know very well just because they were so ubiquitous in pop culture. The guy is not only a great singer, but has also workedContinue reading “#291 – Talk Dirty by Jason Derulo”
#290 – Global Griot by Eric Bibb
I can’t believe it took me until now, almost 300 posts in, to decide to do my listening in the morning, but it has truly been a transformative adjustment. It seems like such a small tweak, and I still write my posts in the last hour of the day, but the effect on my mentalContinue reading “#290 – Global Griot by Eric Bibb”
#289 – Bigger Love by John Legend
Today I tried listening to my album selection earlier in the day than ever before. I was done by about 10:30 this morning and it really made a huge difference in my mental state for the rest of the day. It doesn’t hurt that John Legend’s latest offering is pretty excellent. I ended up listeningContinue reading “#289 – Bigger Love by John Legend”
#288 – Zoy Zoy by Tal National
I feel like yesterday’s selection really reinvigorated me for this project. Anyone who reads my posts regularly has surely noticed an encroaching apathy over the past couple of weeks that I am hoping to shake off. I realize it’s a part of the cyclical, repetitious nature of the pandemic to have these down periods comeContinue reading “#288 – Zoy Zoy by Tal National”
#287 – Urban Flora by Alina Baraz and Galimatias
I’ve been fortunate to get some great recommendations for the blog of late. Recently, anytime my enthusiasm has been flagging, someone comes along with an album that really gets me excited again. Today is a perfect example. This album is a collaboration that came about when Alina Baraz and producer Galimatias sought each other outContinue reading “#287 – Urban Flora by Alina Baraz and Galimatias”
#286 – If You Feel by Xavier Omär
Every so often we all have one of those days where you spend all day thinking about life and what we’d really like to be doing with it. And while its easy enough to listen to a new album while in that process, sometimes you just don’t really care about coming up with something evenContinue reading “#286 – If You Feel by Xavier Omär”
#285 – MANTIC by Ro James
This is a great soul/r&b album that probably should have been yesterday’s selection due to its more romantic themes. Even the title, when combined with his name, literally spells out romance. See what he did there? So clever. This is another one that was featured in several best of 2020 lists.
#284 – For Certain by Bia
Happy made-up-celebration-of-sentimental-consumerism day to all. It seems to me that the year is punctuated by far too many arbitrary celebrations and this one is one of the more expendable. At least the next one, St. Patrick’s Day, provides a good excuse for a full day of inebriation and corned beef.
#283 – Free by Phabo
Another day that shall go down in American history as one of disgrace, and perhaps a signpost on the path of decline of our democracy. One partisan group put their party before their country and the other shamefully backed down in the face of an opportunity to clearly gain the moral high ground. The houseContinue reading “#283 – Free by Phabo”
