I am not familiar with the catalog of Jarvis Cocker, formerly of the band Pulp, so this one came to me in my usual haphazard way, from some clickbait article. Jarv Is… was originally founded to play at an Icelandic festival founded by the great Sigur Ros. They meant the project to be an experimentContinue reading “#230 – Beyond The Pale by JARV IS…”

#228 – Fetch The Bolt Cutters by Fiona Apple
It has been many years since I listened to a Fiona Apple album, so when her latest offering appeared on some critic’s albums of the year list I had to go for it. If you can’t tell, my selection process is very organic, with the choice often seeming to have been made for me inContinue reading “#228 – Fetch The Bolt Cutters by Fiona Apple”
#227 – Loaded by The Wood Brothers
After the third time Spotify played “Postcards From Hell,” I felt obliged to listen to this album. Great story, I know.
#221 – Soul Explosion by The Daktaris
While I never consider any album I select to be regrettable, there are certainly good times and bad times for everything. So what to do when the choice feels wrong? How does one right the ship and move forward instead of putting it all permanently in the rear view? It sounds so melodramatic in theContinue reading “#221 – Soul Explosion by The Daktaris”
#220 – Elemental 7 by Chris & Cosey
Under different circumstances, I would’ve been all about this album of ethereal, industrial mood music. As it was, however, it caught me in a bit of a gloomy mood and served only to enhance that. #213 – self-titled by Toubab Krewe
Great album…
#205 – Songs For Christmas by Sufjan Stevens
Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, it’s time to start preparing for the next pseudo-religious, consumer-driven solstice celebration. The Christmas season is particularly irritating, with a full month of repetitious music and spendy build-up to the standard family confrontations and manufactured stress that makes us so nostalgic for the simpler days of our childhoods. RememberContinue reading “#205 – Songs For Christmas by Sufjan Stevens”
#201 – Troubadour by J.J. Cale
This is an excellent album by a prolific and influential songwriter that should really be a lot more famous than he is. If you’ve listened to much rock music from the 70s and 80s, you’ve almost definitely heard a song of his.
#199 – 21st Century Liability by YUNGBLUD
Not sure how I came across this one, but it’s pretty fun. It features some really cool combinations of guitar parts with break beats and lyrics that are kinda violent, clever, and funny at the same time. If this is what the kids are into these days, I’m into it.
#198 – Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes by TV On The Radio
Up next in my list of bands that I never gave a chance to because someone was too insistent…
