Continuing with yesterday’s bluegrassy theme, today we have Railroad Earth, a jammy member of that scene, who have been staples of the summer festival circuit for many years. I’m hoping to catch these guys live sometime soon.

#551 – The Carpenter by The Avett Brothers
A couple weeks ago I listened to an album by Brandi Carlile. As I wrote in that entry, a concert-going experience with her led me to the discovery of these guys, who are one of the most enjoyable bands to see live that I’m aware of. Their performance exudes joy, and the energy that theyContinue reading “#551 – The Carpenter by The Avett Brothers”
#550 – Solo Album #1, “Silver Tears” by Saint Sinner
I discovered this artist through their collaboration with Tycho, who has been one of my favorite artist/producers for that past several years. This has been a very effective avenue for discovering new music as he frequently collaborates with quite a collection of artists.
#549 – Oh, Inverted World by The Shins
I never got on the Shins bandwagon until very recently. For some reason, I never paid much attention to them despite the obsession that some friends had with them.
#548 – Dublin Blues by Guy Clark
A new documentary is about to come out about Guy Clark, his wife and their best friend Townes Van Zandt. Besides the fascinating love triangle that they apparently were involved in, they wrote an incredible collection of songs. Somehow, I’ve been listening to Townes for my entire adult life, but never came across Guy ClarkContinue reading “#548 – Dublin Blues by Guy Clark”
#546 – Away by Dntel
Rounding out my coverage of the solo albums by members of The Postal Service, Jimmy Tamborello is a stand out in the world of electronic music. He was instrumental in the mixing of techno sounds with indie rock moodiness and always has something new and interesting to add to the musical landscape.
#545 – The Wilderness by Explosions in the Sky
I always love a good instrumental, atmospheric album and these guys always deliver in that department. They also put on a fantastic show.
#544 – Already, Always by Bess Atwell
Anyone who puts a picture of their cat on their album cover is alright by me. Is that even her cat, though? It’s gonna haunt me.
#543 – Fever Dreams by Villagers
My most prolific album suggester strikes again. This is a beautiful album that I loved. It gave me one of my most enjoyable drives home in recent memory.
#542 – songs by Adrienne Lenker
I just heard of this artist from an article about the inspirations behind some actress’s new album. Really an enjoyable, mellow listen.
