An illustrious houseguest brought up this artist to me, incredulous that I had never heard of her. While that is always a favorite reaction to my perceived musical ignorance, it also often inspires me to listen, as it has here.

#560 – Sweat Kollecta’s Peanut Butter Traffik Jam by Traffik Island
I have no idea how I came across these guys, but between their album title and artwork, it immediately caught my attention. Pretty cool stuff.
#559 – Professional Rapper by Lil Dicky
I don’t think I’d describe this as a comedy album per se, but it is pretty funny. Some good material about explaining your rap career to your parents.
#558 – Evolution by Boyz II Men
I’ve been working on a TV holiday special that features, among others, these guys. Over lunch, I was made aware of the fact that Boyz II Men has never stopped performing and releasing music, which means that they have a ton of material that I’ve never heard.
#547 – Pure Phase by Spiritualized
I only became aware of these guys recently because of their appearance on an indie rock compilation of Grateful Dead covers. Their catalog, it turns out, is right up my alley.
#557 – Wenu Wenu by Omar Souleyman
I just learned of this artist because of his arrest in Turkey on what seem to be bogus, politically motivated terrorism charges. It seems that this prolific singer and Dj, who combines middle eastern folk music with techno beats, has recorded over 500 albums, a staggering accomplishment by any standard.
#556 – Harlem River Blues by Justin Townes Earle
I only discovered this artist upon learning of his tragic death last year at the age of 39. His father, the legendary Steve Earle is about to put on a tribute concert to commemorate Justin’s career on what would have been his 40th birthday. Yet another career, with so much potential, cut short.
#555 – The Nothing by Korn
My cousin posted a video from a recent Korn concert, which made me take a look at their catalog. I hadn’t listened to any of their music in well over a decade and really never listened to them regularly, so I knew there would be a lot to get caught up on. Rather than doContinue reading “#555 – The Nothing by Korn”
#554 – Neon Body by The Zephyr Bones
I just read an article about the release of this album and they seemed to be someone that I should check out. I wish there was a better story to go along with it, but sometimes my path to an artist is as simple as the Relix Daily 7 email.
#553 – Without You I’m Nothing by Placebo
These guys came up in a lunch conversation the other day. While I was not sure that I was aware of them at the time, upon some reflection and a little bit of listening, it turns out that I do know some of their work. Just one more band whose heyday was during my highContinue reading “#553 – Without You I’m Nothing by Placebo”
