I heard a single from this album a week or two ago, so I was looking forward to its release. Also, I thought the singer was one of the Johns from They Might Be Giants. Not so, apparently.

#830 – Nobody Can Live Forever: The Existential Soul of Tim Maia by Tim Maia
This album is part of a really cool series called World Psychedelic Classics. Nothing is going to get me behind your music quite like lyrics that repeatedly proclaim “there is no god, there is no heaven.” I love how loud and proud this guy is about his atheism.
#829 – Thumpaverse by Thumpasaurus
These guys are a super fun and silly band. They have instantly shot to the top of my “must see live” to-do list.
#828 – Floating Coffin by Thee Oh Sees
It’s always good to start the day with a really energetic album, and these guys fit the bill nicely. The perfect accompaniment to keep me awake during an early morning commute. I also really like the vampire/strawberry/monster album art.
#827 – Ancient Homies by lespecial
These guys came up in a conversation on the Phish subreddit. Someone asked for some artists who are similar to Phish but heavier, and this group was mentioned. I’m not sure why this person felt that that was an accurate description, but I do agree that they are a cool and interesting band.
#826 – self-titled by The Highwomen
In my continuing Linda Ronstadt obsession (still listening to her version of Little Feat’s “Willin’” a few times a day), I’ve been looking a bit at similar country vocalists. This group was mentioned, as they are a supergroup of amazing female singers, and they certainly do not disappoint.
#825 – The Year of Hibernation by Youth Lagoon
I first came across this artist from the compilation album, The Space Project, which features an array of indie artists offering some of their spaciest sounds. Now that I’ve given this album the time of day, I’m astounded that it took me this long.
#824 – Spare Ribs by Sleaford Mods
I just saw Idles at Coachella this past spring and they are the closest comparison I can make to the accent and delivery of the vocalist in this band. This is kind of like the hip-hop/electronic version of that sort of aggressive English energy that is so captivating in a live setting.
#823 – Marvelous Clouds by Aaron Freeman
This is other Week brother’s one solo album. They are playing this week as part of the South Park 25th anniversary concert at Red Rocks, along with Primus. I can’t think of a much better lineup than that, for my taste. Even without the South Park material involved, a concert bill with these two bandsContinue reading “#823 – Marvelous Clouds by Aaron Freeman”
#822 – The Deaner Album by Dean Ween Group
Ween is one of my favorite bands. They’re great songwriters and have such a great attitude toward their performances. There aren’t too many artists who can squeeze up to 40 songs into a typical performance, as they did the last time I saw them. Not sure if or when we’ll ever get another album fromContinue reading “#822 – The Deaner Album by Dean Ween Group”
