As I listened to the description of a recent Elvis Costello performance, I realized that I only know a small section of his prodigious catalog. I’ve always enjoyed the parts that I know, though, so why not go back to the beginning and hear how it all started?

#870 – Pride by Phosphorescent
One of my favorite compilation albums is Day of the Dead, which features a variety of artists covering Grateful Dead songs. Phosphorescent’s contribution was a fantastic version of one of my favorites, Walking On The Moon, which then led me to this artist’s impressive catalog.

There was an article in the Guardian today about Pharoah Sanders, who passed away late last week. He was a jazz saxophone legend and a contemporary of John Coltrane. I’m sure I would’ve heard about him long ago if I had more than a cursory knowledge of the jazz world.
