As I am always trying to delve further into the world of electronic music, I will often look to the big names of the genre’s past. Artists like this inspired so many others that some knowledge of their work feels like a prerequisite to an electronic education.

#495 – Already Free by The Derek Trucks Band
Derek Trucks is probably the man most responsible for the start of my guitar journey. I saw him with the Allman Brothers Band several times when I was in high school and is the guitarist I most wanted to emulate, right down to the fingerpicking and the SG.
#494 – self-titled by The Budos Band
I’ve had people sing the praises of these guys from time to time. A colleague recounted a very positive concert-going experience with them the other day and I decided to finally give them a try.
#493 – Emily’s D+Evolution by Esperanza Spalding
I worked on a session with this artist in college. A good friend of mine was producing it and I can remember sitting in the control room and thinking that she would surely by very famous, very soon. Fast forward five or six years and I saw Esperanza opening up for Prince. I’m not sayingContinue reading “#493 – Emily’s D+Evolution by Esperanza Spalding”
#492 – En Garde by Ethan Gruska
No idea how I came across this one, but I liked it. Just another journey down the Spotify rabbit hole…
#491 – Bridging the Gap by Black Eyed Peas
I was talking to some friends about music the other night and somehow we got on the topic of the Black Eyed Peas’ albums before Fergie joined their ranks. I remember having owned the first one, which I thought was decent, but not exciting enough for me to come back for more, apparently. Now, havingContinue reading “#491 – Bridging the Gap by Black Eyed Peas”
#490 – Passover by The Black Angels
Interesting that I listened to a Passover album the week of Rosh Hashanna. This is a band that was fronted by Alex Maas of selection #488 fame.
#489 – Magic Touch by Jack Name
This is a fantastic album. It’s not terribly common for me to listen to a new artist and immediately move on to one of their other albums, but on this day I did just that.
#488 – Luca by Alex Mass
The next few selections were all brought to me by my most prolific suggester of this blog. I’ll have to go back someday and see how many selections certain people have provided. This guy is a really mellow indie artist who really likes rehab.
#487 – Fear Fun by Father John Misty
I love the cover art on this album. This artist has always intrigued me since I heard a story about the writing of his first album. Supposedly he drove up and down the west coast of the United States, by himself, in a van with a bunch of instruments and mushrooms and kept going untilContinue reading “#487 – Fear Fun by Father John Misty”
