In my continuing Linda Ronstadt obsession (still listening to her version of Little Feat’s “Willin’” a few times a day), I’ve been looking a bit at similar country vocalists. This group was mentioned, as they are a supergroup of amazing female singers, and they certainly do not disappoint.

#825 – The Year of Hibernation by Youth Lagoon
I first came across this artist from the compilation album, The Space Project, which features an array of indie artists offering some of their spaciest sounds. Now that I’ve given this album the time of day, I’m astounded that it took me this long.
#824 – Spare Ribs by Sleaford Mods
I just saw Idles at Coachella this past spring and they are the closest comparison I can make to the accent and delivery of the vocalist in this band. This is kind of like the hip-hop/electronic version of that sort of aggressive English energy that is so captivating in a live setting.
#823 – Marvelous Clouds by Aaron Freeman
This is other Week brother’s one solo album. They are playing this week as part of the South Park 25th anniversary concert at Red Rocks, along with Primus. I can’t think of a much better lineup than that, for my taste. Even without the South Park material involved, a concert bill with these two bandsContinue reading “#823 – Marvelous Clouds by Aaron Freeman”
#822 – The Deaner Album by Dean Ween Group
Ween is one of my favorite bands. They’re great songwriters and have such a great attitude toward their performances. There aren’t too many artists who can squeeze up to 40 songs into a typical performance, as they did the last time I saw them. Not sure if or when we’ll ever get another album fromContinue reading “#822 – The Deaner Album by Dean Ween Group”
#821 – Several Shades of Why by J Mascis
I wasn’t sure what to expect in a solo album from the guitarist from Dinosaur Jr, but whatever I was expecting, this one was a nice, mellow pleasant surprise.
#820 – This Is A Photograph by Kevin Morby
I heard an interview with Kevin Morby this morning about the origin story of this song. It’s a great tune about finding an old photo of his father when he was at the same age that his father was in the picture.
#819 – Three Flights From Alto Nido by Greg Laswell
We’re out camping at a state park this weekend in an area with little cell service. I ended up having to go for a walk to find a spot with enough reception to listen to this one.
#818 – Heart Like a Wheel by Linda Ronstadt
I heard Willin’, a Little Feat cover from this album, the other day and am now obsessed with the song. I’ve probably played it 10-20 times per day since the middle of last week. It’s starting to become a real problem.
#817 – Stratosphere by Duster
Here’s another artist from the Desert Daze lineup.
