This just came out yesterday. I haven’t closely followed Nick Cave’s career, but I’ve always been peripherally aware of him. I do know, however, that his son recently passed, and can only assume that this album is his response to the devastation wrought by such a loss. As a parent, I can’t imagine going through something like that without falling to pieces. It just shows what an incredible artist he is that he can channel his grief into something productive. If it were me, I would’ve crawled into a bottle and stayed there.
