This was yet another of Jerry Garcia’s side projects that he played with for a time in the 1970s. I read an article about this band that featured an interview with their drummer, whose other gig was playing in Elvis Priestly’s band. Such an interesting cross section of professional music that he was straddling.

#613 – Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons by Blonde Redhead
A friend of mine posted about seeing this artist open for Tool at one of their recent shows and loving them. Since Tool is pretty high on my list of bands that I need to see live, whoever opens up for them will get my attention, if only for a moment. Then I was pleasantlyContinue reading “#613 – Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons by Blonde Redhead”
#612 – Strange Trails by Lord Huron
These guys are similar to a bunch of my favorite artists, so it’s surprising that it took me this long to check them out. Some nice mellow indie/bluegrassy vibes.
#611 – GLOW ON by Turnstile
I heard about these guys from a Spin article about how they were the only non-hip hop act at some festival and absolutely blew the crowd away. Their sound is classic hardcore that reminds me of high school. Also, this album has been suggested to me by 3 people since I listened to it.
#610 – A Flock of Beeps by Younger Brother
I now find myself in the awkward position of being so far behind in my posts that I have to relisten to some of my selections to refresh my memory. These guys are an electronic supergroup of sorts, featuring Shpongle’s Simon Posford and Benji Vaughn of Prometheus. True trippy edm royalty.
#609 – Sleep’s Holy Mountain by Sleep
Always good to get in some good, stony metal. These guys sound like they could’ve been around in the ‘70s, opening for Black Sabbath. The singer even sounds a bit like Ozzy.
#608 – Bear’s Sonic Journals: Live at The Carousel Ballroom, April 24, 1968 by Johnny Cash
This is the latest release from the estate of Owsley “Bear” Stanley, famed Grateful Dead audio engineer and prolific LSD manufacturer. Bear spent the sixties and seventies mixing and archiving the performances of some of the greatest artists of the time, and now his family is slowly remixing and releasing some of the best showsContinue reading “#608 – Bear’s Sonic Journals: Live at The Carousel Ballroom, April 24, 1968 by Johnny Cash”
#607 – Emily Can’t Sing by joe p
I got about halfway through this album before I noticed what the title is. I don’t want my friend Emily to think that this selection is a jab at her, but even if she does, I think her beef is really with joe p and not me.
#606 – bb u ok? by San Holo
I tend to gravitate towards guitar-based music, so it’s always great to find an electronic-heavy artist who utilizes the guitar in cool ways. I would be very interested in seeing this guy live and what kind of performance it is.
#605 – The Crane Wife by The Decemberists
Here is yet another band that people have tried to get me into over the years and for whatever reason I missed the boat on. Fortunately, with music it’s never to late to start.
