My favorite thing about this project is the daily opportunity to discover a new artist. It has opened my eyes to many genres that I might never have realized how much they appeal to me. One big one has been the world of indie pop. I’ve traditionally been reluctant to spend much time on the pop genre in general, possibly because of the many years of dreadful top 40 music that has existed in my lifetime. It had always represented the lowest common denominator of the very commercial side of the music industry. Over the past few years, a series of eye-opening live music experiences have brought me on board with some of the most popular artists in the world. This newfound mild enthusiasm for pop music tends to surprise people, but I feel like it has made me into a much more well rounded listener.
