And now, back to Black History Month with some old school funk. Who knows when I first heard the Brothers Johnson. It seems like their music has always been around throughout my life, but when “Strawberry Letter 23” was featured in Jackie Brown they were truly catapulted into my awareness. Since then, that song has been in all kinds of films and shows and has even been adopted into the list of rarities performed by Phish from time to time. Incidentally, my friend Dave has been at every show where Phish played it. I’m not sure how much longer he can keep that streak alive, so I had to mention it while it was still a thing. I know a lot of you non-jammy people are rolling your eyes at the mere mention of the Phish from Vermont, but you should realize by now that I will never feel the need to explain away my fandom.
