We’ve been watching the new Apple+ series, The Morning Show, and the song “Nemesis” is featured in the opening title sequence. There are only 10 episodes in the series, but I Shazam-ed this song no less than four times over the course of the three days that it took us to binge our way though. It sounds foolish, I know, but Benjamin Clementine’s voice has tonal qualities that are similar to the late great Nina Simone, and that similarity repeatedly overcame my ability to remember the last time I had heard the song, even though it had only been an hour or two. I’m choosing to blame that on the Groundhog’s Day-like quality of the covid-19 lockdown lifestyle.
