
Though I was not aware of Elbow before this album was recommended to me, the content of it was clearly inspired by some pretty dark experiences. After a very small amount of research, it seems that that was indeed the case. Not only did the band lose three people that they were very close to within a couple of weeks, but one song, “The Delayed 3:15” is about a man who threw himself under a train that lead singer and guitarist Guy Garvey was on. He was actually in the process of writing lyrics when this incident occurred. If something like that doesn’t inform the tone of your music, I’m not sure that anything can.
