#127 – The Soft Bulletin by The Flaming Lips

Until a few months ago, I had only ever listened to one album by the Flaming Lips, Yoshimi Battles the Robots.  I’ve written before about a theory posited by a friend, who is a musician and music appreciation professor, that music finds you when your are ready for it.  The Flaming Lips are another band that I have been aware of for many years, and even had friends who have been obsessed with them, but they had never really tickled my fancy in the way that they now have.  Now that I have begun to pore over their catalog, I can really hear their influence in many artists that I am a fan of.  As much as I hate to think about the many missed opportunities to see them over the years and all the time that I should’ve been following their albums as they were released, it is also very fun to be able to jump around to different parts of their career at will, making discoveries all at once.  It’s a glorious rabbit hole to go down and I can’t wait for the next such discovery.
