I was going through the Nick Drake catalog this evening and it somehow led me to Joni Mitchell. I knew she was a legendary songwriter and a really interesting guitar player, but had never spent any time on her albums. For a long time, the only performance of hers that I had seen was from The Last Waltz. I’m trying to put together a compelling reason why I chose this album, but its mostly that I’d never heard more than a song or two of hers, even though she was a contemporary of many of my favorite artists of the ‘60s and ‘70s. I also didn’t know that Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young did not write “Woodstock”. So that was a fun discovery as well.
