This artist’s obviously prestigious pedigree pretty much guaranteed the success of her musical career. Her father was sitar legend Ravi Shankar. She is a sitar prodigy who has been performing professionally since she was a child, but beyond this, her compositions are really amazing works.

#508 – Harench by The Folk Crusaders
While searching for more Asian artists for the blog, I discovered these guys. They are a fantastic psych/folk band from the ‘60s with a really cool sound. When music from that era is discussed, it is usually in reference to American or European artists, but this one made me want to check out more musicContinue reading “#508 – Harench by The Folk Crusaders”
#507 – Cookbook by John Andrews and The Yawns
No idea where this selection came from, but I really enjoyed it.
#506 – Ravel: Boléro – Daphnis et Chlöe – Pavane by The London Symphony Orchestra
This was a great recommendation from a close friend. I always go way too long in between classical selections for this project.
#505 – Abundance by The Nth Power
I read an article about these guys and their upcoming album, which features performances by the late Kofi Burbridge. Having never heard of them before, I wanted to familiarize myself with them ahead of this release.
#504 – The Tennessee Fire by My Morning Jacket
I’ve listened to so much of the more recent My Morning Jacket catalog over the past couple of years that I felt like I needed to go back and check out some of the earlier stuff as well. I was never that big of a fan before, but now they are one of the topContinue reading “#504 – The Tennessee Fire by My Morning Jacket”
#503 – Worst of 2020 by Pomplamoose
This one was recommended to me by a friend and one of this blog’s first followers. It is mostly covers, which I normally stay away from for my daily selections, but the “Lovely Day/Good As Hell Mashup” is so good that I had to go through the full album.
#502 – Blows Against the Empire by Paul Kantner/Jefferson Starship
This album was on a desert island albums list from some interview that I read the other day, along with album #500, from just two days ago. I can’t remember whose desert island album list it was, though I’m not sure how much it matters. It might be worth knowing, however, just to check outContinue reading “#502 – Blows Against the Empire by Paul Kantner/Jefferson Starship”
#501 – The Nashville Sessions by Leftover Salmon
These guys keep popping up in playlists that I’ve been perusing, so it was only a matter of time before I got to one of their albums. They’re a glorious blend of bluegrass and jammy indie rock, blended gloriously for your enjoyment.
#500 – Mustt Mustt (Real World Gold) by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
For this blogging milestone I was torn about how to mark the occasion. On the one hand, it feels like a decent accomplishment to have kept this thing going for 500 days. Conversely, why should this selection be considered any more significant because it will be associated with a big, round number in the annalsContinue reading “#500 – Mustt Mustt (Real World Gold) by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan”
