This is a great live recording by some very talented improvisational jazz musicians. You say you don’t like jammy jazz music? I say you’re missing out. But then, that’s how I feel anytime someone tells me they don’t care for any genre in particular. These kinds of recordings, though, really epitomize the living, breathing natureContinue reading “#523 – Welcome to the Hill by Yussef Dayes Trio”

#522 – Northern Songs by The Asteroid No. 4
It should surprise no one who follows this blog that I am quite fond of the modern psychedelic genre that seems to be having a moment right now. There are no shortage of amazing bands that fall into that category and I’m all too happy to explore as many of them as I can.
#521 – self-titled by Rush
Next weekend marks the long-awaited (by me, at least) return of Primus to the LA area. One of my favorite live acts of all time, this repeatedly rescheduled your feature a performance of Rush’s amazing A Farewell to Kings album, a tribute to the late, great Neil Peart. Having never seen Rush live is probablyContinue reading “#521 – self-titled by Rush”
#520 – Our Days Mind the Tyme by The Dolly Rocker Movement
Not sure how many more times I can attribute a daily selection to Spotify’s recommendations, but I can promise that this won’t be the last time. I’ll try to come up with something better to write, though, when I’m not always playing catch-up.
#519 – Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade by London Philharmonic Orchestra
Rimsky-Korsakov came up in a story I was reading so I had to check out one of his prominent pieces. I’ve always enjoyed Russian composers and this gentleman is no exception.
#518 – self-titled by Broken Social Scene
Usually I check my old blog posts before I choose an album for the day. Today I did not, but since this is an amazing album by some indie rock legends, I guess it’s ok to repeat an artist.
#517 – Easter by Patti Smith Group
Patti Smith has been performing recently and I read a really great review of her show at Royal Albert Hall. This led me to the discovery that I only know a few of her songs and had never heard a complete album of hers.
#516 – self-titled by Black Pistol Fire
Still being influenced, if only tangentially, by that Tom Morello list. This album came up on Spotify after The Atlas Underground album ended.
#515 – Ruminations by Conor Oberst
The creative force behind Bright Eyes is not who I would expect to find on a top 5 album list by Tom Morello, but here it is. I really love to hear about the diverse listening habits of people that I am a fan of.
#514 – The Atlas Underground by Tom Morello
One of the albums on the Tom Morello list mentioned yesterday was an EP by Knife Party. This artist is who inspired Him to pursue a project involving collaborations with some EDM and hip hop heavy hitters. The result is this album, which is super entertaining. I certainly hope he does more collaborations like these.
