I heard a song from this album at work a few weeks ago. It was played by the house DJ on a tv show I’ve been working on, which has always been a great avenue for song discoveries.

#980 – FLIGHT by Hanni El Khatib
I’ve always said that my favorite app is Shazam, which is one of the best, most useful apps of all time, and one that I use constantly. This album came to my attention because the song ALIVE was featured in a recent Apple commercial. Another connection made by Shazam.
#979 – Spirit of Eden by Talk Talk
I came across this album in a column from Spin where different artists list their “Top 5 Albums I Can’t Live Without.” This installment featured Dave Rowntree of Blur, who called this his favorite album of all time.
#978 – self-titled by Willis Alan Ramsey
The more I learn about country music, I find more and more artists that I really enjoy. Ramsey has to date released only this one album, with a cult following that has led most of these songs to be covered by a variety of artists. His long-awaited second album has been rumored to be onContinue reading “#978 – self-titled by Willis Alan Ramsey”
#977 – 13 Songs by Fugazi
Somebody sent me a YouTube video of some School of Rock kids doing a really great cover of Waiting Room, fronted by three female singers. They totally nailed it.
#976 – I’m Still In Love With You by Alton Ellis & Hortense Ellis
I have friends that I know I can go to for a recommendation from a certain genre or era, and that’s where this one came from. Alton was considered the greatest and most soulful singer to come out of Jamaica. Until Bob Marley came along, of course.
#975 – Worldwide Torture by Jazmin Bean
If you can look at the cover of this album and genuinely not be curious about its content, then maybe music exploration is not for you. This artist mashes up a bunch of genres to create a unique experience that includes elements of metal, hyperpop and much more, with an odd and sometimes unsettling aesthetic.Continue reading “#975 – Worldwide Torture by Jazmin Bean”
#974 – North Hills by Dawes
This is yet another artist that a friend of mine has been telling me about for years and I just never gave them the time of day until now. Honestly, I became intrigued about them when they were featured as the “friends” in a line up of Phil Lesh and Friends last year. There’s nothingContinue reading “#974 – North Hills by Dawes”
#973 – Young Blindness by The Murlocs
I am finding myself listening to more and more music from down under. It seems like there’s a musical renaissance happening in Australia right now. Or maybe it just seems that way to me because I have been listening to a lot of material from there. Confirmation bias, perhaps?
#972 – self-titled by The Head and the Heart
These guys are a pretty cool, folky indie band from Seattle. I came across them on a lineup poster for an upcoming Southern California music festival.
