This album came up on a Spin list of the best albums of 2024 so far. I don’t usually read much info about the background of an album before listening, but the story of this one is the reason why I chose it. It was written as a response to the tragic and sudden death of Shannon Shaw’s fiance, Joe. It definitely does not have the somber, funereal tone that one might expect from such a subject, but rather feels more celebratory, honoring the spirit of a lost friend and companion.
