I give Spotify’s algorithm a lot of credit for introducing me to new artists on a regular basis, but that’s not my only avenue of discovery. Another method that has brought a decent number of albums to my ears is the obituary section of major news sites. Over and over again I learn about entire catalogs that have escaped my attention until the artist (or a band member) has passed on. In this case, I’ve at least heard of The Pogues, but never heard much of their music until now, after Shane MacGowan, their original singer and lyricist is gone.
