I first heard of these guys when they played at Coachella some seven or eight years ago, around the time they released their first album, which is a powerhouse of stripped-mall down musical energy. Anyone who can fire up an audience with just a bass and drums is worth checking out, in my book. I can’t say I hold their second album in such high esteem, but this one – which I am listening to on the day of its release, an arbitrary distinction that I enjoy for some reason – makes it seem like they are back on track, at least in my view. Hopefully they’ll play some small club venue when they come around to LA.
