#1143 – They Say I’m Different by Betty Davis

In light of America’s persistent March backwards into the dark ages, thanks to some monumentally regressive Supreme Court decisions, it feels important once again for people to clearly state their positions on various topics. There’s not place for ambiguity and the possibility of being mistaken for a supporter of these policies, even through omission of words and actions. So let me just say that LGBTQ+ rights are human rights, Black Lives Matter, everyone deserves equal access to healthcare and education, women’s freedom to choose what’s right for their bodies is more important than anyone else’s beliefs or sensibilities, our children deserve to inherit a clean and livable earth, and they also deserve to not be brainwashed by a religious institution noting their choosing. I could go on like this with more and more issues that do not have two sides that deserve equal consideration, but I think you see where I’m coming from. None of this should be controversial, if you truly want what’s best for the world, your country and, most importantly, your children. It also seemed appropriate to say this beneath an album by a powerful black woman, released in the years closely following the Civil Rights Act.
