It’s been a while since I’ve done this, but today I went back to a classic NAAD selection technique: learning about an artist because of their death. I read about the passing of Big Pokey, a legend in the Houston hip hop scene, last week, along with many tributes from some heavy hitters. Whenever this happens, I always reflect on the timelessness of the work that artists leave behind and how they truly live on as long as their art is still available to be seen or heard.
