This album was recommended by a coworker who is friends with the songwriter of this band. It’s some very well-produced arena rock material, with guitar work that is very reminiscent of Queen’s Brian May.

#681 – Earth by EOB
I am a huge Radiohead fan, so I’ll always check out any other project that those guys are involved in. I started to learn more about Ed O’Brien a few years ago when I started getting into boutique guitar pedals. Ed is a customer of a legendary British builder of custom pedal boards, so I’veContinue reading “#681 – Earth by EOB”
#680 – Birthplace by Novo Amor
Here’s another great instrumental album for another mellow weekend day. We got into a very short discussion about the translation of Novo Amor, which I think is Spanish for ‘new love.’ It’s just another reminder of how truly pathetic it is that I still don’t speak any Spanish after living in Los Angeles for overContinue reading “#680 – Birthplace by Novo Amor”
#679 – Rock Action by Mogwai
This was the perfect mood for a Saturday afternoon. How better to bring the week to an end than Bloody Marys(Maries? Maryses?) and some instrumental mood music.
#678 – Halloqveen by Qveen Herby
I’ve been listening to the Lizzo albums a lot recently, and since I like to take the lazy road, I will follow the algorithm’s advice once again. “People” also like Qveen Herby, says Spotify, and being the good little consumer that I am, I’m following the instructions of my tech overlords.
#677 – loveless by my bloody valentine
I know I sound like a broken record sometimes with comments like this, but this is another artist that has been around for a long time but somehow escaped my attention until now. I have some friends that are obsessed with them, blah blah, you’ve heard this story before, I know.
#676 – Armed Forces by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
I was playing music at work today, which is part of the position on this particular show. I went to the bathroom and came back to find that the director had put on a song from this album. Though I am fairly familiar with Elvis’ body of work, I hadn’t heard this one, which isContinue reading “#676 – Armed Forces by Elvis Costello & The Attractions”
#675 – Some Devil by Dave Matthews
Usually when people recommend an album to me, it’s because they are familiar with it and are enthusiastic about it. Today was one of the rare exceptions to that rule. I’m not saying that this is a bad album by any means, but when I told the suggester that I was underwhelmed, they revealed thatContinue reading “#675 – Some Devil by Dave Matthews”
#674 – Supralingua by Mickey Hart
If you’re looking for a percussion-based, world music-inspired album, look no further than this offering by Grateful Dead percussionist Mickey Hart and his ensemble, Planet Drum. I can’t help but picture him aggressively chewing gum while drumming in his signature white gloves, which look like they wouldn’t be out of place in any garden.
#673 – Classic Objects by Jenny Hval
I think this is my first Norwegian blog entry and it’s not a death metal band. This artist has an incredibly impressive resume, including 7 albums and 3 novels, and at only 41, it seems like her creative life will go on for decades. I’ll be adding her to my reading to-do list.
