Even though the main event is still a little over a week away, today may prove to be one of the most pivotal moments in American history. With the installation of Justice Barrett, the Supreme Court now includes three people – in case you missed it, the other two are Roberts and Kavanaugh – who were involved in handing the White House to George W. Bush in 2000. The implications of this are terrifying, and make it all the more important that the voters reject Donald Trump in numbers that cannot be disputed. This seems to be an unlikely outcome to me, though, admittedly, my judgment concerning the American populace is not to be trusted. However unlikely it may seem, the future of our nation and, in many ways, the world, depends upon that result. Otherwise, “we” will continue to reject science and bend over for the corporate interests that really make the decisions in this country. Hopefully, enough of America realizes the seriousness of our predicament. Yay democracy!
