I had to take a little break from writing about current events because I was getting so angry all the time, but after our fearful leader’s latest embarrassing exhibition of cognitive well-being, it’s hard to think about much else. Free discourse is one of the benchmarks of any so-called democracy and it is up to each of us to make up our own minds. I do accept that, but it’s also disheartening to think about how many of our fellow Americans will accept no scientific evidence over the rantings of a partisan opinion talking head. The reluctance to do research for ourselves has fueled the fires that threaten to consume us at the moment. It’s hard to see how that situation can change anytime soon, but there is always hope that enough people have been hurt by our government’s action and inaction to mobilize the electorate. Maybe we can also put some of the offensive amounts of money being spent on unnecessary military hardware towards our actual future by investing it in our education system. Then the generations to follow might learn to have critical thinking skills of their own.
